Do I need to download the source materials or purchase the CAS study kit?

Our materials are built around the CAS exam syllabus and are designed to be a complete study resource on their own.

Nonetheless, we highly recommend that you purchase the CAS study kit and download all source materials from the exam content outline for upper-level CAS exams.

Exam writers create problems directly from the source material, so it’s helpful to be familiar with the wording, particularly for qualitative questions. You’ll also find the source material invaluable for cross-referencing when studying.

How to get the source materials

Download the exam content outline at casact.org.
Download all linked papers under the “Text References” section
Purchase the study kit through the CAS Portal – Go to the Bookstore tab to find your exam’s study kit and buy it.

Note:

The study kit often isn’t released until a few weeks after the exam sitting starts, so check back to the CAS site if you don’t see it immediately.
CAS Exam 9 includes a textbook (“Pricing Insurance Risk” by Mildenhall & Major). We recommend that you get this as well – your employer should reimburse you for it.
